Village Wisdom Global Education Kit

This kit is a resource for teachers to globalize their classroom.Today's students must be prepared  to collaborate as global citizens of a diverse, interdependent world. Teaching global competency skills (global awareness, critical thinking, media literacy, intercultural communication, and civic engagement) is vital to K-12 education as the world continues to face systemic problems that are only solvable through global collaboration. Being globally competent will also lead to better opportunities in a widespread competitive global workforce. Teachers are now evaluated on their effectiveness in integrating global awareness into their classroom activities. There’s another important piece to providing global education. The human spirit has a natural desire to “make a difference.”  It’s called efficacy. People from all walks of life; rich or poor, young or old, faith oriented or not, want to be needed and feel valued. Global education gives learners a world of opportunities in which to engage and make a difference, utilizing their unique gifts, skills and interests. Kit Contains:

•           Facilitator’s  Guide; Tools and Resources for Teachers and Trainers – This 130-page spiral bound booklet includes lesson plans, class-room exercises and writing prompts which meet a variety of goals and objectives in the 21st century curriculum.

•          Let’s go to Uganda!  -  A 17-minute DVD which takes learners into the heart of Africa through the eyes of 10 and 12-year old boys as they traveled and spent one month in a rural Ugandan village.  (For students in K-12 classrooms)

•           Global Service Learning DVD for Teachers - A 16-minute DVD or teachers who will be facilitating sessions in the Village Wisdom Global Education Kit and/or the Story Portrait Project. The DVD is a resource to be used in the Teachers Training Module. Teachers can receive CEU credits from participating institutions for taking this workshop

•           Village Wisdom; Immersed in Uganda, Inspired by Job, Changed for Life, by Carrie Wagner. This book tells an intimate and heartfelt story which spans miles and years, crossing cultures and connecting generations.  It is an authentically beautiful book of which the photographs alone evoke emotion and inspiration, but much more, the honest account challenges a multitude of audiences to make life-changing decisions.  For youth, who are seeking to integrate their interests, passions and skills in a meaningful career, or for parents who are convicted to raise children with the values of humility, gratitude, and service, and especially for persons longing for the fulfillment that comes through giving and receiving, Village Wisdom offers a starting place and a next step on the desired path of global citizenship.
